Commercial operator. Founder. Writer. Advisor.
I have spent more than 25 years building businesses, markets and revenue systems across media, technology, aviation, retail and publishing.
Based in Doha, I work across MENA and APAC, bringing together commercial strategy, audience, technology and partnerships. My perspective has been shaped by operating inside global companies, building new markets, carrying founder risk and learning that sustainable growth rarely comes from one discipline working alone.
Nisha Varman is a Singaporean commercial operator, founder, writer and advisor based in Doha, Qatar. She works with CEOs, founders, technology companies, media businesses and destination brands on market entry, transformation, go-to-market strategy and commercial growth across MENA and APAC.
The same pattern kept repeating.
I began my career in Doha, building media and non-aeronautical revenue opportunities for Qatar Airways at a time when airport media was still treated largely as physical inventory. That experience taught me to see commercial potential where others saw infrastructure.
At Clear Channel in Singapore, I learned how technology categories could create entirely new revenue streams for premium environments such as Changi Airport. At LinkedIn, I helped build the MENA business from an early-stage operation into a regional commercial platform. Tealium and The Trade Desk deepened my understanding of first-party data, identity, programmatic media and the relationship between technology adoption and organisational alignment.
Building The Urban Yogi gave me the founder's view. Media leadership roles gave me the publisher's view. Working across Qatar, the UAE, Singapore, India and wider MENA and APAC gave me the market-entry view.
The same pattern kept repeating: businesses rarely struggle because they lack ambition. They struggle because strategy, technology, audience, operations and commercial ownership are disconnected. That became the central conviction behind my work today: commercial value is created when systems connect.
Twenty-five years, four kinds of work.
Commercial infrastructure
At Qatar Airways, Clear Channel and Phar Partnerships, I worked across airports, out-of-home media, sponsorship, asset development, pricing and monetisation. The work taught me how physical environments become commercial platforms when customer experience, audience value and revenue design are considered together.
Technology and data
Through LinkedIn, Tealium, The Trade Desk and Signpost India, I worked across B2B growth, first-party data, identity, programmatic media, adtech, martech and digital out-of-home. My role was often to translate technical capability into commercial adoption and market value.
Audience and authority
At Augustus Media, I led commercial growth in Qatar across Lovin Doha, Smashi Business and Smashi Sports. Today, my public work spans publishing, founder content, executive communications, newsletters and the relationship between authority, discoverability and commercial trust.
Founder and portfolio
I founded The Urban Yogi in Dubai and now lead SilQRoute Consulting and SilQRoute Times. I am also developing Startup Huddle Doha as a practical, founder-led platform for peer learning, market connection and ecosystem participation.

Before I advised founders, I carried the risk myself.
In 2012, I founded The Urban Yogi in Dubai with a Qatari partner. We created a sustainable home and lifestyle brand known for distinctive, one-of-a-kind products, a carefully designed customer experience and an experimental approach to retail.
We were among the earlier independent brands in Dubai to use pop-up stores as a way to test locations, build community and create a more flexible retail model.
Behind the brand was the less visible work of building a company: inventory, cash flow, customer acquisition, systems, supplier relationships and the journey towards Series A. The business is no longer active, but the experience permanently shaped how I understand founders. Ambition may start a company. Commercial discipline, clarity and repeatability are what make it ready to scale.
Five convictions the work is built on.
Commercial value is created when systems connect.
Strategy, technology, audience and operations become more valuable when they work as one commercial system.
Growth without operational clarity is expensive confusion.
Capital can accelerate a business, but it cannot create readiness.
Trust is a commercial asset.
In complex markets, credibility shortens the distance between awareness, confidence and action.
Founder heroics can build the first version of a company.
Scale begins when the company can operate, decide and grow without every decision returning to the founder.
Market entry is not a launch plan.
It is the work of understanding relationships, institutions, culture, customer behaviour and how value is actually created in that market.
Built between markets, industries and cultures.
I am a third-generation Singaporean, shaped by India and built professionally across Qatar, the UAE, Singapore and wider MENA and APAC. I have spent much of my career moving between markets, industries and cultural contexts.
That experience allows me to see both the commercial opportunity and the local nuance. I understand how global ambition must be translated into market trust, relevant partnerships and operating reality.

Clarity is usually the first commercial advantage.
I have spent my career turning complexity into commercial value, first as an operator inside global businesses, then as a founder, and now as an advisor working across markets and disciplines.
For organisations entering new markets, building commercial momentum or connecting fragmented parts of the business, the starting point is usually the same: create clarity around how the whole system works.
